BillionGraves Headstone Photos Vs. BillionGraves GPS Headstone Records
BillionGraves Headstone Photos
Photos taken outside of the app are called BillionGraves Headstone Records. These are still desirable and searchable when you do a search of a person on our site. These will also go into the transcription queue just like photos taken with the app. The difference with these records is that they will not have a GPS location and will not have a pin on the cemetery map.
You might ask why does GPS matter? The simple answer is that we want people to be able to verify records and locations within a cemetery. This is what sets our website apart from others out there. You don't have to merely trust that the photos belong to a certain cemetery, you know for sure due to GPS marking! Our apps take the GPS location 10 times more often than a regular camera, or GPS device, it is programmed to do this for verification purposes.
How can you tell if a headstone record is taken with the app, or if it is a regular photo with no GPS?
There are a few ways to tell if a photo is a GPS image or a photo was taken with the app. Photos taken outside of the app:
- Will have a "gr" inserted in the URL of the record on the transcription page.

- The images will not merge with other records. The location placed by the user will appear in the record table, but no merging information will appear.

- The images will not show up as pins on the cemetery page. There will also not be any Nearby Graves listed on the record page.

- The photo will display a computer icon on the cemetery headstone images page.
