What is "Others Not Buried Here" used for?

Some gravestones list the names of the deceased’s family members even though the family members are not buried there. This information can be very valuable to Family History Research, as it will often list the relationship between family members.

Some examples of others not buried here on a headstone would look like:

John, son of Henry and Mary Smith

Susan, wife of Samuel Jones

Elizabeth, daughter of James and Mercy Jones

Children: John, Mary, Josie, Gary, Ralph
