We have always had a subscription side of our website.  We have since added another layer by adding in a volunteerism requirement to see volunteer content.  If you have 500 images in your account and/or 250 transcriptions in the account, you can see all volunteer content for life.  These include the large images that volunteers photograph.  The reason we had to do things this way is it enables all volunteers to understand the volunteer process. Those who do not want to volunteer can pay for a monthly or yearly subscription.    We do this so that everyone who is able to see this content has "some skin in the game" so to speak.

Over the years we have found that some of our fiercest critics haven't participated in the process of volunteerism at all.   The 500 image/ 250 transcription requirement also only is the equivalent of about 2 hours of service work for a lifetime of the ability to see other volunteer content.  We also have some content under subscription that we as a company have paid for.  Subscribers will be able to see the content our company has paid for, no ads, and the ability to see nearby graves as well as other content.

Those who have already met the 500 images and/or 250 transcriptions will not notice the difference.

This account did not meet the volunteerism requirement.  You can still see content, but the images associated with it are not available to view.

This account did meet the volunteerism requirement.  This user has been transcribing and photographing for free BG+.
