In the course of almost 10 years of working with the website and its features, I have worked alone in dozens of cemeteries across the United States.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Work an entire area of a cemetery- This allows those who come later to be able to visually see what was done in the past
  • Do the oldest stones first- Older stones deteriorate with time. Due to pollution and vandalism many  of the older stones are deteriorating at a fast pace.  The sooner these are documented the better!
  • If the stone is hard to read, make sure that you transcribe these in the cemetery. This will make it even better for everyone
  • ONLY use the linking feature on stones with multiple memorials or in family plots where there is a large headstone with the family name. Don't use this feature for separate headstones.
